Have you always wanted to learn how to quilt but felt a little intimidated by the task of learning how? Perhaps you are you looking for a very special gift to give to a loved one? Well, you've come to the right spot!
This course will take you through an easy step-by-step process to create a hand-made quilt top and is designed for anyone interested in quilting, from beginner to experienced. If you’ve never made a quilt before, you’ll receive all of the necessary instruction to get you from start to finish. If you are an experienced quilter, you’ll love being introduced to this pattern and you will likely learn some new quilting techniques that you previously did not know.
This "Stars and Stripes" pattern is one of my all-time favorites. I’ve made quilts using this pattern many times but have given them all away as they make great gifts! One of the most enjoyable steps of the process is determining the personality you’d like your final quilt to have. With the “Stars and Stripes” pattern, you may choose fabrics that create a fun and patriotic color scheme, to create a playful motif of the night sky, or that are just cheery and fun colors.
To get started with your quilt top, you will need a few tools as well as a working knowledge of your sewing machine’s most basic functions. In the course, I show you the tools I like to use that have proven to me to be the most helpful over my years of quilting (hint: you can check out the “Equipment and Tools” video segment for free by clicking the “Preview this course” link. And, as for your ability to stitch in a straight line, I’ve got hints for you to improve in that area as well!
I learned to quilt from my Aunt Mary Whitehead, an extraordinary quilter and instructor. She was also a very good mathematician and loved creating her own patterns. Additionally, she was all about building efficiency into her process and developed several very helpful techniques. Many of these techniques are included in the special Tips and Tricks segments of this video course.
I’ve taught folks who have never sewed before, and with care and practice, they have created beautiful quilts. Here’s what some of them have to say:
“This was my very first quilt project. With Wendy’s thoughtful and detailed step by step guidance, I was able to make my quilt over 4 weekends. I love it so much, that I decided to hang it in my office to enjoy the vibrant colors. I found the experience fun and rewarding. I learned basic sewing skills many years ago from my mother, and I was so pleased to learn many new techniques from Wendy that I have incorporated into my other sewing projects.” – K.B. from Oregon
“The step-by-step, watch and pause and then do approach worked great! Loved the tip for finishing and attaching the binding in one continuous piece. What a FUN and EASY way to make a quilt from start to finish! I can hardly wait to begin my next “Abracadabra” quilt!!” – JoAnne B.
Once you’ve finished your “Stars and Stripes” quilt top, you’ll likely be ready to jump into your next quilting project. Please be sure to check out my other quilting instructional videos on Udemy!
