DescriptionIn this course, students will learn how to communicate with patients and assisting them with medication when entering the pharmacy with a wide range of health issues. Initially the student will meet the patient and offer assistance. The student will be taught a variety of health issues that a patient may state. Further probing questions in order to establish the exact nature of the problem will follow. Having established this, the pharmacist will then ask whether the patient would prefer a generic-type form of medication and explain the virtues of the alternatives. Depending on the patient's response, the pharmacist will inquire whether the patient has a doctor's prescription. The pharmacist will then dispense the medication and explain in detail to the patient as to how the medication should be taken. The pharmacist will also counsel the patient on the precautions to be taken regarding the taking of the medication.
In addition to the above, the parts of the body will also be discussed in detail. To round off the program, the student will be taught how to advise the patient on the use of a thermometer, nebuliser and inhaler as well as how to treat a baby with nappy rash.
