Be a Leader and Not a Manager in Healthcare is a 1 - hour course designed to teach healthcare managers and healthcare clinicians the keys to successful leadership and communication. The objectives of the course are to define leadership and leadership styles, identify successful leadership styles in healthcare, recognize effective communication strategies in healthcare, and apply effective communication strategies through case studies and practical examples. The course is divided into 12 lectures delving into topics including but not limited to defining leadership, leadership traits, various leadership styles, the DISC Assessment, and communication techniques based on the DISC Assessment. The DISC Assessment is a valid and reliable personality measurement tool that assigns 4 possible colors to individuals, reflecting 4 unique personality types. This course teaches healthcare leaders how to identify the 4 personality types and their communication styles in order to have the greatest impact. This course is relevant to all those in healthcare, as leadership and communication are essential for both managers and clinicians, whether they are leading healthcare employees or patients. The course is taught by Dr. Ari Ginsberg, PT, DPT, MSIOP, a physical therapist as well as an industrial/organizational psychologist.
