ဤ Course သည် GIS နည်းပညာ၏ အခြေခံသဘောတရားများကို ကျောင်းသူကျောင်းသားများ နားလည်နိုင်စေရန် အခြေခံအုတ်မြစ်ချပေးသော Course တစ်ခုဖြစ်ပါသည်။ GIS ၏ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ဖွင့်ဆိုချက်၊ GIS ၏ အခြေခံအယူအဆများ၊ GIS တွင် အဓိက ပါဝင်သောအစိတ်အပိုင်းများ၊ ၎င်း၏ အခြေခံလုပ်ဆောင်ချက်များနှင့် အသုံးချမှုနယ်ပယ်များနှင့်ပတ်သက်ပြီး ဆွေးနွေးသွားရန်ရှိပါသည်။

ကျောင်းသူကျောင်းသားများ အနေဖြင့် ဂျီသြမေတြီဒေတာမော်ဒယ်နှစ်ခုဖြစ်သော vector and raster models တို့အကြောင်းကို ဤ Course တွင် လေ့လာရပါလိမ့်မမည်။ ထို့ပြင် အရာဝတ္ထုများ့၏ ဂျီသြမေတြီများကို မျှဝေထားခြင်းကို လေ့လာသော GIS Topology ကိုလည်း လေ့လာခွင့် ရရှိနိုင်ပါမည်။

ကျောင်းသူကျောင်းသားများသည် သင့်တော်သော GIS Data Source များကို စိစစ်ရွေးချယ်ခြင်း၊ ဒေတာဖမ်းယူခြင်းနှင့်တည်းဖြတ်ခြင်း နှင့် raster to vector သို့မဟုတ် vector to raster အပြန်အလှန်ပြောင်းလဲခြင်းများကိုလည်း လေ့လာရပါလိမ့်မည်။ ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ်ဒေတာ အဖြစ်ပြောင်းလဲတည်းဖြတ်ထားသော ဒေတာများကို Spatial Database တစ်ခုမှာ သိမ်းဆည်းထားရတတ်သဖြင့် ကျောင်းသူကျောင်းသားများသည် DBMS ဟုခေါ်သော ဒေတာစီမံခန့်ခွဲမှုစနစ်အကြောင်းကိုလည်း သိရှိထားရန်လိုပါသည်။

GIS ၏ အဓိက အကျဆုံးလုပ်ဆောင်ချက်သည် နေရာဆိုင်ရာ အချက်အလက်များနှင့် ၎င်းတို့နှင့်ပတ်သက်သော အသေးစိတ်ဖော်ပြချက်များကို ခွဲခြမ်းစိတ်ဖြာခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။ ထိုခွဲခြမ်းစိတ်ဖြာခြင်းသည် GIS ၏ အရေးအပါဆုံးအပိုင်းဖြစ်သည်ဟု ဆိုနိုင်ပါသည်။ ထိုခွဲခြမ်းစိတ်ဖြာခြင်းမှ အသုံးဝင်သော သတင်းအချက်အလက်များ၊ သုတများ ရရှိလာသည်။ နောက်ဆုံးအနေဖြင့် ကျောင်းသူကျောင်းသားများသည် ရည်ရွယ်ချက်နှင့်အသုံးချမှုအမျိုးမျိုးအတွက် နေရာဆိုင်ရာ အချက်အလက်မျာများကို ခွဲခြမ်းစိတ်ဖြာခြင်းပြုလုပ်ပုံကို လေ့လာရန်ဖြစ်သည်။

ဤ course ကို သန့်မြန်မာ၏ ဖိတ်ခေါ်မှုဖြင့် ဦးတင်ကိုဦးမှ ပို့ချထားပါသည်။ ဦးတင်ကိုဦးသည် ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံ၊ Mahidol University တွင် Environment and Resource Studies ဘာသာရပ်အတွက် Ph.D ပြုလုပ်နေသူ ပညာရှင်တစ်ဦး ဖြစ်ပါသည်။

"This course provides a solid foundation that allows the students to understand the basic principles of GIS. We will discuss the definition of GIS, the basic concepts of GIS, the key components of GIS and its basic functions and applications. In this course, the students will also explore the two major types of geometric data models employed in GIS: vector and raster models. What is more, the students can study GIS topology which is essentially a set of rules and behaviours that model how objects share geometry. Moreover, the students will also learn about how to analyse appropriate sources for GIS data, data capture and editing, rasterization and vectorization. As digitized and edited GIS data are stored in a spatial database, the students need to know the use of a Database Management System (DBMS). The most important function of GIS is the analysis of spatial data and their attributes for purposes of decision support. Indeed, spatial analysis is the very crux of GIS. It allows the conversion of data into useful information and knowledge. Lastly, we will look at how to do spatial data analysis for different purposes and applications.
