Electric Shocks and Rescue Process
The sudden and accidental simulation of human body nervous system when an electric current flows through it is termed as an Electric Shock. The human body will respond depending upon amount of current and victim body condition which are surprise, fear with reflex action, sensation, difficulty in breathing, perception, ventricular fibrillation and muscular contraction.
There are many circumstances in which a person can get an electric shock (Being called as victim). Some of them are:
1) Victim touches a bare conductor which is charged.
2) Victim touches a poorly insulated conductor.
3) Victim touches a failed electrical equipment body or its part which is now at charged condition.
4) Victim comes in contact with static electricity charged body.
5) Victim is nearby a place where lighting stroke has fallen.
The severity of an electric shock will depend upon following variables or factors:
1) Value of current flowing through human body.
2) Time duration of flow of current.
3) Path taken by current through human body.
4) Physical condition of human body.
5) Area of contact of human body.
6) Type of current AC or DC.
7) High voltage.
The value of an electric current that flows through victim human body decides the degree of painfulness of electric shock and this value of current will depend upon the physical and physiological condition of victim as it decides the victim human body resistance .
The most important and immediate steps we have to take to rescue a person who has got an electric shock are:
1) Immediately switch off the electric supply
2) Remove the victim from the charged body with help of insulated things.
3) Remove the victim from the charged body with help of insulated things.
4) Place the victim in comfortable place in nearby location
5) Avoid to place in A.C. room
6) Provide Artificial Respiration if required
7) Immediately call Doctor
8) Never give the victim any kind of liquid until suggested by the Doctor.
9) Remove any foreign particles that may be present in victim mouth.
10) Wrap the blanket around the victim if you found clothes have catch fire. (Do it only when supply is made off)
