This course discusses initial research conducted on the importance of occupational therapy in the work industry. The research addresses the occupational therapy outlook related to the work industry and the importance of early intervention and workplace education. It discusses different key elements that may be encountered when working in the work industry. A few of those key elements included and often encountered when working in the therapy work industry can be post offer employment tests, job analyses, assessing causation, ergonomic assessments, work conditioning evaluations, work conditioning programs, acute occupational and physical therapy worker's compensation cases, and functional capacity evaluations. Not all worker's compensation cases or clients include each of these components, however, it's important to understand each piece so you are knowledgeable with what treatment a client may have received or what may be most appropriate for the client moving forward. I first became interested in occupational therapy related to ergonomics and the work industry during my occupational therapy program during an ergonomics course. Occupational therapy focuses on an individuals daily life and the tasks or activities that occupy a person's time and work occupies the majority of a lot of individuals time and days, which interested me to look further into occupational therapy involvement in the work industry.
