DescriptionHave you ever said to yourself you wish you had a teacher, doctor, or doula that looked like you? Whether you’ve asked this question or not, you’re in the right place to begin learning how to understand diversity inclusion. Learning the vast forms of diversity in our world helps change your perspective and become a more well rounded person and professional. Changing your perspective starts with understanding how the words and phrases we use every day can impact an individual that feels marginalized. In this course we learn about definitions of identity, power, privilege and more as they pertain to diversity and inclusion and cultural competency. We then dive into a discussion of subgroups and ways we can be more inclusive regardless of socioeconomic status, culture, language, sexual orientation and more. Learn about microaggressions and racially and prejudicially charged jokes or comments so you can avoid them. This workshop encourages you to put yourself in the shoes of others and think as others think to better help you understand and begin to change your perspective. The ultimate goal: de-center yourself, shift your perspective to better understand your client or fellow doula, and give space to marginalized individuals...and never stop learning!
