This course explains concepts related to Depreciation charged on Fixed assets. It includes prerecorded video lectures containing explanation of concept of depreciation, Types for calculating depreciation, Solved examples and accounting for depreciation.

This course is divided into 3 sections :

Section 1 : Depreciation Basics

This section includes following concepts

• Meaning of Depreciation , Need for depreciation , Meaning of Fixed assets

• Explanation of methods of calculating depreciation. This includes Straight Line method/ Cost method, Written Down Value method/ Reducing balance method , Sum of years digit method, Depletion method/Units of production method/ machine hours method. Lectures includes explanation about every method along with examples.

• Calculation of Depreciation in case of sale of Asset and accounting treatment in case of sale of a asset

Section 2 : Accounting for Depreciation along with examples

This section includes following concepts

• Solved Example showing accounting treatment i.e Journal Entries, Posting of Journal entries in Ledger account when depreciation is charged to fixed asset directly.

• Solved Example showing accounting treatment i.e Journal Entries, Posting of Journal entries in Ledger account when depreciation is recorded separately in provision for depreciation account / accumulated depreciation account.

Section 3 : Advanced concepts on Depreciation

This section includes following concepts

• Accounting treatment and calculations when there is change in method of calculating depreciation. For example : Change of Method from Straight Line method to reducing balance method.

• Meaning of Revaluation of Asset, Effect of depreciation i.e calculation and accounting treatment in case of revaluation of asset.
