This course is created to improve the awareness on safe use of compressed gas cylinder in construction industry. Many fire and explosion incidents do happen commonly at construction industry. The root causes of the incidents are
a) Lack of knowledge
b) Inexperienced operators
c) Lack of inspection and maintenance of gas cylinders
d) Uncontrolled hot work
e) Unsafe handling of gas cylinders and hose pipes
f) Unsafe storage of gas cylinders
g) Not prepared for emergency situation such as fire and explosion
h) Not performing Hydro test on the cylinders to check its condition periodically.
In this course,
As far as practically possible, the course materials are prepared with lot of pictures clicked at the construction sites are added.
Chapter 1- Introductions and objectives of the course is explained
Chapter 2- The learner will be able to understand the hazards arising due to use, handling and storage of gas cylinders. Also learn about the characteristics of various gases commonly used in construction industry. Color codes for the gas cylinders used within European codes are explained in this chapter.
Chapter 3- In this chapter, hazards of Oxygen and Acetylene is explained. Also, the hazard due to oxygen enrichment is briefed with prevention measures for such enrichment.
Chapter 4- The learner will be able to understand how to identify the gas cylinders and the precautions to be taken during supply and transportation
Chapter5 – In this chapter, the safe storage of gas cylinders and safe securing of cylinders are explained illustratively.
Chapter 6- In this chapter, the explosion proof requirement of electrical equipment used at the storage of gas cylinders is well explained. Also, the inspection and care of the hose pipes used for Oxygen- Acetylene cutting set is briefed
Chapter 7– The learner will be able to understand about the don’ts about the handling of gas cylinders, care for the cylinders and the importance of cleanliness of gas cylinders.
Chapter 8 – This chapter explains about the general precautions to be taken for the prevention of fire and the use of gases inside confined space.
Chapter 9 – The learner will be able to understand about the regulator checks on the cylinder and how to remove the damaged cylinders safely out of service. Also, how to execute the hot work safely to protect the surrounding services.
Chapter 10 – In this deck, the summary of all precautions is briefed at a glance.
