Hello and welcome to this bumper course based around birds.

In this course, we're going to learn how to build a wooden bird table, a small wooden aviary (or small animal enclosure) and we'll also learn about some common British garden birds.

The woodworking projects in this course are perfect for the complete beginner, as they're full of handy hints and tips that will help you with any further projects you try your hand at.

Small aviary (small animal enclosure)

This course can also be used by both the complete beginner as well as the more adept DIYer, as I go through every process step-by-step.

I will go through every step in detail so we can build a beautiful home for our feathered or furry friends together.

I managed to get all of the materials required for about £30, so this is a relatively inexpensive project to complete.

The only materials you’ll require are some thin timber posts, some screws and nails and some chicken wire. The sizes I’ve included in this course are perfect for housing any birds up to the size of a large canary, however, you can make your own aviary as large as you like to suit whatever needs you have. This aviary or enclosure could also be used to house small mammals such as hamsters, mice or rats, and you could even leave the bottom off and use it as a garden run for guinea pigs or rabbits. The options are endless!

All about British garden birds

There are over 600 species of birds that live in the United Kingdom. Whether you’re sitting in your garden, walking through a park or even shopping in your local town, you are bound to hear the songs of our feathered friends.

But, if you’re a complete beginner to bird watching, you might not know the difference between a dunnock or a sparrow, or you might not know how to attract a robin to your bird table.

Well, in this course, I’m going to be going through some British garden birds. I’ll talk about how to recognise them and introduce you to each species, showing you their traits and characteristics. Once you know about a bird, it becomes much more interesting to watch.

You might think that to relax and unwind, you need to go on a spa break or take a holiday in the sunshine, but in actual fact, there’s a much easier way to relax much closer to home. All you have to do is look out of your window!

The psychological benefits of bird watching are well known. Sitting watching wildlife gives us a chance to switch off from the modern world and get back to nature, reboot our brains and take some much-needed rest.

Watching birds might be good for us, but it’s also entertaining. Birds have fascinating lives that really are a joy to sit back and watch. So, in this course, we’re going to look at some ways that you can “bird scape” your back garden and encourage more feathered friends to take refuge there.
