A Beginner's Guide to Intellectual Property Law

This course introduces the learner to the basics of Intellectual Property Law. Under the expert tutelage of a seasoned legal scholar, specialized in Intellectual Property Law, the learner shall be guided in the following areas of Intellectual Property Law:

1. Copyright Law- this encompasses the rights of creators of literary, musical and artistic works, broadcasters and producers. It also entails the process of copyright registration.

2. Trademark Law- this part shall detail the legal requirements for a Trademark to be protected. It shall also highlight the process for registering Trademarks.

3. Patent Law- In addition to highlighting the rights of patent holders and the legal requirements for the grant of Patents, this part highlights the process of registering Patents.

4. Trade Secrets Law- this part shows the learner how commercially sensitive information may be protected by Trade Secrets.

5. Industrial Designs & Utility Models- These areas show the learner how novel inventions and designs are protected by the law.

6. Cultural Expressions & Traditional Knowledge- the learner shall be enlightened on how valuable cultural expressions and traditional knowledge may be legally protected and commercially exploited.

Ultimately, the learner shall acquire commercial awareness with respect to different Intellectual Property rights and how they can be commercially exploited. Furthermore, the learner shall acquire legal knowledge that will assist them in determining the terms of contracts relating to Intellectual Property.
