DescriptionOur curriculum is built on the learning that has taken place throughout the kindergarten year in schools in Myanmar. The program utilizes a balanced literacy approach. Within the program are the components such as phonics, spelling, vocabulary, basic reading, writing, and handwriting. Developing phonological skills is the foundation of this course since sound/symbol knowledge is critical, as it is the foundation of our spoken and written language. Throughout the course, students will learn all Myanmar consonant and vowel sounds, how to blend them together to form a meaningful word and how to use them in writing basic sentences and in reading short readers. Through the development of phonological skills, students will learn how to decode words and become independent in spelling both familiar and unfamiliar words and learning new vocabulary. From handwriting lessons, students will learn correct letter formation and will be able to practice proper handwriting skills. As for the Reading Program, interactive read-aloud lessons only based on words and phrases that students know so that students will not have any difficulties participating in reading lessons. After completing this course, students will foster independent skills and strategies in order to develop active, thoughtful, purposeful readers and writers who interact with text. We, at Myanmar Schoolhouse, are very excited to have you at our school.
