In this course we are bringing to you a basic foundation course in the concepts of chemistry.

The course consist of lectures on some basic concept of chemistry and the structure of the atom.

Discussions on the nature of matter, the laws of chemical combination Daltons Atomic theory, and the concept of elements, atoms and molecules, concept of Molecular masses, mole concept, molar masses, percentage composition, empirical and molecular formula.

After giving the above concepts, the learner is taken in to the journey which introduces the discovery of the constituent atomic particles – electrons, protons and neutrons. Armed with this, you can easily understand the concepts of Atomic Number and existance of isotops and isobars.

Moving forward, the coursediscusses various atomic models proposed by various scientists (Thompson, Rutherford, bohr etc.)

As the lectures builds up to the quantum mechanical model of the atom, you are exposed to the concepts of shells and subshells, dual nature of matter and light, de Broglie’s work, and Heisenberg uncertinity principle.

This is followed by a very lucid and easy explanation of quantum numbers and shapes of the orbitals.

All this is concluded by giving a foundation of writing electronic configurations of atoms
