This course is meant to be a very basic introduction to objects in space. While it is not meant to be a comprehensive overview of astronomy, we do cover all the different major objects of our solar system, the life cycle of stars, and the lack of evidence for aliens and alternate dimensions. All of these topics are framed in the context of Pokemon and their relationship to these astronomy concepts.

The course is divided into four recordings (each 13 to 16 minutes long)plus extension activities after each recording.

In the first part, we learn about constellations. What are constellations?Why did ancient civilizations create constellations?What Roman/Greek constellations inspired the creation of some Pokemon?What Pokemon was inspired by Japanese constellations? We'll explore the answers to these questions.

The second recording is about the stars. We'll discuss the life cycle of a star, from birth to death, and we'll talk about which Pokemon and Pokemon moves are inspired by each stage of the life cycle. This section includes the Sun, star colors, Nebulae, Supernovae, and Black holes.

The third part of this classes focuses on planets and moons. We'll go over the Pokemon trainers named after planets, and discuss exoplanets and aliens. Then we will turn our attention to the moon, and talk about what a moon is, the properties of our moon, moon phases, if there could be life on the moon...all while discussing the myriad of Pokemon related to the moon.

The final recording covers comets, meteors, and asteroids. The focus will be on meteors, since they inspired so many Pokemon. In the end, we'll talk about other dimensions in the Pokemon universe, and whether other dimensions might also exist in our own universe.
