Genetics is the field of biology that studies how traits are passed from parents to their offspring. The passing of traits from parents to offspring is known as heredity, therefore, genetics is the study of heredity. Heredity is what makes children look like their parents. This course: part 1 of A level genetics takes you through the basic components of genetics such as DNA, genes, chromosomes and genetic inheritance.

In part 1 of the A level Genetics course you will learn about DNA structure and function, DNA replication including the Meselson Stahl experiments, cell division and mitosis, protein synthesis, amino acid and protein structure, RNA structure and transcription factors, touching on epigenetics. This course will set you up to learn more detail in part 2 of A level Genetics, which I hope to release later this year. You will learn the theory, watch videos, answer exam questions in each assignment section and you will be able to ask me questions along the way as I guide you through the course. In part 2 of A level Genetics - yet to be released, you will study mutations and meiosis, lac operon, the CFTR gene, genetic crosses and pedigree diagrams, polygenic inheritance, genetic screening and more on epigenetics.
