Archimedes of Samos (287-212 B.C ) studied at Alexandria as a young man . One of the first to apply scientific thinking to everyday problems, he was a practical man of common sense. He gave proofs for finding the area , the volume and the center of gravity of circles, spheres, cones and spirals. He was killed in the siege of Syracuse at the age of 75.
